Paul
Woolmer reported (published in Jul 03 Revcounter):
On 25 May 03 we hosted the annual New Members Day meeting, or perhaps it should be called
the Old and New Members Day because in addition to a healthy number of members who have
joined over the past 12 months we had all of 'the usual suspects' (no offence meant,
well......) even the National Chairman John Keener
put in an appearance. (Regrettably 'Sans AH 50 shorts! Ed.)
The New Members day is normally one of the season's openers, to get our new members out
and hopefully integrated into Club activities and also to show that the committee (most of
whom turned out) don't really have 2 heads and spit fire.
In total 40 Healeys and Austin-Healeys of every shape and size were on show, with about 85
members, of every shape and si......... oops.
The day fell neatly into 3 sections, socialising, eating, drinking and entertainment. We
left the socialising to the participants and can confirm plenty of it was going on all
day. Sharon and I looked after the eating and drinking bit with kind help from several
members with pre-event preparation, again plenty of it going on. The entertainment was
entrusted to the Eastern Centre Vice Chairman and his better half, Clive
and Sue Cocks. There was a
treasure hunt, 'gropey' bags, trivia questions, gymkhana and best car.
Amazingly all 3 awards made on the day went to new members, as follows;
Overall winners of the combined treasure hunt, gropey bags and gymkhana were
Mike and Yvette
Webb in their Mk4 Sprite.
Best Car was the fabulous green 100 of Tony and Pam Longmate.
The best answer to the trivia question (Clive's choice) Joe and Rachael Herbert.
One of the highlights of the day was the arrival of the ex-Timo Makinen works rally 3000
BRX 852B. There were also 6 other ex-works cars on display.
The picture below shows a bright and sunny scene in our back yard. Fortunately the weather
was kind with just a few spots of rain at one point. The sunshine only added to the
overall enjoyment Sharon and I had in hosting this event. That said we couldn't have done
it without the help of so many friends who chipped in either on the day or before hand,
but that's what the Eastern Centre is all about and why after over 20 years in the club we
still enjoy it.Click here for Chairman Rob's view of the event. |
